We loved being the wedding photographers at Catherine & Stephen’s wedding at Hopetoun House near Edinburgh. Their day was full of fun, colour and lots & lots of personal details. Even the typical Scottish summer weather of sunshine and thunderstorms didn’t stop them and their friends and family from as far afield as South Africa having a ball all day long. This is a big blog post as we have so many photos that tell the story of Catherine & Stephen’s day that we wanted to share with you……
We always enjoy weddings at Hopetoun House. Not only is it a stunning venue with acres of grounds to discover, it’s also home turf for us (our studio is just out of shot on the right of this picture).
Christopher Ness Jewellery made both Catherine & Stephen’s wedding rings for them, having previously created Catherine’s engagement ring.
Rev. Norman Faulds, as always, performed a fun, personal wedding ceremony and made sure there was a bit of audience participation too.
All the wedding stationery was personally created by Catherine. She designs and makes beautiful, hand painted stationery. You can see more of her creations on her Paper Delights website. You’ll also see much more later in this post too.
Pipe Major Iain Grant was there to welcome Catherine & Stephen and their guests to Hopetoun and was on hand throughout the day to pipe guests and perform Master of Ceremony duties. When Iain’s at a wedding, you know it’s going to be fun!
The Scottish summer weather gave us some great opportunities to photograph inside the State Apartments of Hopetoun House and gave Catherine & Stephen a few quiet moments together.
After a little sustenance, thanks to some of Heritage Portfolio’s delicious canapés they were ready to brave the the brisk breeze and a few drops of rain as they headed off to join their guests and the party.
Even more of Catherine’s creativity could be seen throughout the ballroom and on the tables. All of the stationery was based on a vintage floral theme taking inspiration from hydrangea blooms and liberty print fabric. The fabric was used for the bridesmaid dresses and carried throughout the day in the table plan and favours for the gents.
The scented teacup candles were all handmade by Stephen and Catherine having spent many months trawling the charity shops for the perfect vintage tea cups!
As well as tasting delicious, Heritage Portfolio’s food always looks gorgeous too.
The Candy Bar was a huge hit.
But the fun and surprises didn’t stop there. Just before midnight, everyone joined Catherine & Stephen on the front steps of Hopetoun House where the rousing sounds of the pipes and drums brought the night to a spectacular close.
